It does look like the elephant might have been trained by mistreatment though but it has now been rescued and still paints through learned behaviour rather than being forced to do it. This was the attached info from the charity:

dear friends,.

much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.

however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

I've found this week hard emotionally, but I have good friends - both here and at home. I think I've done with the grieving of losing my job and am ready to settle into a new 'unemployed' routine now. it will be better once all the red tape which is currently stopping any finance coming my way is all gone.

Got one veg plot dug over today - my first potatoes are planted - just in time because its raining now. The rain will also damp down the huge bonfire I started this morning as long as it doesn't rain too much, I'll be outdoors again tomorrow with a restoked bonfire and trying to dig another plot for carrots and onions.

Tried out Loubelle's recipe tonight - yummy! Tomorrow I'll be having cottage pie with the leftovers - I'm going to get some cheese to grate over the top to add some extra 'tang'!

And I'm doing something I haven't done for a long time - relaxing with a mug of white wine (I don't possess any wine glasses lol!) and I don't intend to go to bed sober tonight. I apologise here and now for any subsequent erratic posts I may make

I went into a Christian book store today!

they had this sale on cool coffee mugs and i just said damit i'm going in.

Exactly the same on this side of the pond too Terry! What I call spoon-fed Christians who wouldn't have a clue where to begin should their faith be challenged, they just cling blindly to what they're told from the front on Sunday mornings!

We sold virtually none of the 'theological' category - an irate customer once returned a historical book because the author had dared to mention Gilgamesh! she announced that he 'must be an atheist' lol!

I did used to have a Witness come into the shop to place mags with me - but I never saw her again after she called one day and found pubsinger behind the counter instead of me - can't think what the problem was lol

obviously by my post title you can gather that i don't, but thats not to say i do not agree with lowering pollution in whichever way we can.

but on the flip side, just another money grabbing ploy by the government?

the uk government is making a big thing about it through their mouthpiece on earth, the bbc.

It's happening but it is a natural occurence, very little to do with mans activities - and that's not to say that nobody should pay attention to what they're doing - its common sense to recycle, conserve energy and other resources etc as much as we can. Its about being responsible rather than fanatical!!

It's a way to raise extra taxes from individuals and businesses (who already pay a 'green' tax on their electricity bills)

Do you listen to the James Whale show? Speaking against he global warming hype is his current hobbyhorse!

Pentecostals? Should I be afraid of them?

just finished watching the film 'borat'.

in it there is a scene where he attends what i assume is a pentecostal church meeting.

for all i know it is a setup.

I felt quite sad watching the above footage - there were people there who looked desperate for *something* - experience of the Holy Spirit - their faces, even though they look happy, their faces are full of sadness - and yes its an ideal setting for hysteria - people so desperate to prove to themselves and/or others that they are *really* in the Spirit that they'll do anything

And with the mass hysteria comes the brainwashing and manipulation, they'll believe anything, just to feel that they are truly part of the group...

That said, I don't believe that all Pentecostals - individuals or churches - are exactly the same, some are very genuine and remain in touch with their own thoughts and emotions during these services!

Greendawn - I think the restaurant served a mixture of both - funny I was looking at the menu and thinking "that's Spanish" lol - but some of it was definitely Greek too.

We tried some weird combinations, that's all I can say!

edit - just did some Googling - its actually classed as a 'Mediterranean style' restaurant, which kinda solves the Greek/Spanish question, just everyone locally calls it a tapas rather than taverna (its easier to say and us Yorkshire folk are idle like that lol!)

I ended up being treated to my tea (dinner!) this evening. My friend took me to a tapas restaurant where I discovered lots of Greek dishes I've never tried before - I found out that I like hummous (?sp) and there seemed to be a lot of things cooked in tomato based sauces. I may start experimenting later - I guess it's a matter of getting the right combination of herbs.

For tomorrow though, I'll be trying out some of your recipes

CoCo - you reminded me, I still have to make real popcorn from scratch yet, lol!

Ooh thank you Paul and Lou! They both sound good for me to try out. I'm heading into town soon so I'll get the extras I need while I'm there. I have enough ingredients to do both

Grilled carrots and turnip - I never even heard of that being tried before!

I was never really taught how to cook when I was young and now, well my attempts are just so uninspiring that I'd just rather not even bother eating at all (which is not good as I have anorexic tendencies). I'm even less motivated at the moment so you're being a huge help to me here

Only two other things: a) the less complicated and time consuming the better b) you can suggest additional ingredients such as tomatoes, herbs, spices etc.
